Kennedy's Sausage Company History:
Kennedy’s Sausage - A Texas Staple
If you’ve ever tried Kennedy’s breakfast sausage then you know its flavor and consistency stands above the rest. That’s because Kennedy’s Sausage, as well as Bacon, has been made the same way since 1963. What makes Kennedy’s Sausage superior is the use of the Whole Hog (premium cuts such as Ham, Loins, etc.) vs. the scraps that larger/known brands use. Choice cuts of meat combined with a unique blend of seasonings not only makes for great sausage, but less overall grease/fat as well!
The original architect behind this wonderful sausage is Joseph Weldon Kennedy, born May 6th, 1929 in Royston, TX. He served in the National Guard, was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Hilltop Church. Mr. Kennedy lived most of his life in Parker County and had many interests such as dominoes, horse racing, and his wife of 60 years Thena Elaine Webb Kennedy.
In 1963 Mr. Kennedy began his dream of sharing his delicious sausage. Kennedy’s Sausage Company was born in Weatherford, TX, which provided jobs and delicious meats for the residents of Parker County and beyond. In 2006, after 43 exceptional years, Mr. Kennedy and family performed the ceremonial passing of the hat upon the decision to sell the company to Texas Best Proteins LP (who’s co-owner is a long-time friend of the family). Mr. Kennedy’s Hat can still be seen on display at the Santo, TX location for Kennedy’s Sausage Hometown Market.
Texas Best Proteins LP is currently the parent company for Kennedy’s Sausage Company, Farm to Market Foods, and Kajun Kettle. Quality and continuous improvement are the key components to their mission statement and that definitely applies to Kennedy’s Sausage as well.
Although Mr. Kennedy passed away in December of 2007, his dream of making quality sausage lives on! In 2011 Kennedy’s Sausage Company made the difficult decision to move operations from Weatherford to Santo, but in doing so they were able to increase production and employment (jobs!), as well as optimize logistics for more efficient distribution. Though the various Kettle products made at this location are loved by all, Kennedy’s Sausage continues to be the major attraction for people far and wide!
As of 2024 the Kennedy’s Sausage brand continues to grow and delight people from Texas to all over the United States! Kennedy’s Sausage can be found at the Kennedy’s Hometown Markets, as well as various stores and restaurants throughout Texas. Whether it’s a patty or “chub”, if you’re a fan of breakfast sausage then come on down to Kennedy’s for some of the best around!
